Equality Policy Statement
Stirling Bike Club is fully committed to the principles and active promotion of equality of opportunity. This means that the club is seeking to not simply comply with legislation, but to proactively encourage and support individuals from under-represented groups to cycle with Stirling Bike Club. We are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
Stirling Bike Club is responsible for ensuring that no member receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of protected characteristics. We support one another, regardless of age, sex, gender, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership, race, religion, pregnancy or maternity, and disability.
What does this mean, in practice?
- Age - we welcome members from 16 onwards (and under 16s in the company of a responsible adult), as per our under 18s policy. We have riders of a wide variety of ages and all are welcome on our rides.
- Sex and gender - we welcome all sexes and genders on our rides. This includes cis and trans men and women as well as non-binary individuals.
- Sexual orientation - we welcome all individuals, be they straight, gay, bisexual, or any other sexuality.
- Disability - we recognise that not all disabilities are visible. Likewise, having a disability will not necessarily prevent a person from joining our rides. We also recognise that people may need some additional consideration or reasonable adjustments to make club rides accessible to them. As well as those with disabilities, this may include neurodiverse individuals and those recovering from injury, for example.
- Race - we aim to increase diversity within the cycling community and riders from all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to join us.
Club members should:
- Whether out on a club run, at an event, or racing: respect our club mates, other riders, coaches, commissaires and other volunteers.
- Respect each other and be mindful of how we speak to others.
- Respect one another’s identities and pronouns (a useful link to explain this is here).
- Report any issues or discrimination to the Welfare Officer, or any other committee member with whom you feel comfortable (and who may then raise it with the Welfare Officer).
- Foster a culture of kindness and accountability where we take responsibility for our actions and welcome everyone.
If you are thinking about joining Stirling Bike Club, and you have any questions about anything raised in this policy, please feel free to contact our welfare officer (
