The Road section meets at The Peak, Stirling Sports Village Forthside Way, Stirling FK8 1QZ from 10.00am on Saturday (Oct-Mar incl.) and 9.00am on Saturday (April-September incl.) for rides to suit all abilities from absolute beginner to Racers.

We aim to cater for all abilities with typical ride groups as below, however, we will on occasion change the composition of the groups to suit the abilities of the riders.

If you're new to riding in a group or have been away for a while have a read through our Code of Conduct, for new riders, we also have a New Road Riders Guidance document.

We also highly recommend you have a read through our Road Ride Leaders (RRL) guidance document to help you better understand what you can expect from your ride leader and also what your ride leader expects from you.

Saturday Rides

09:00am Development Group - this group is aimed at Riders wishing a reasonably relaxed group ride. The numbers in the group is limited and is led by a Road Ride Leader who will be happy to advise on the finer points of group road riding. If you are a new Rider we would refer you to some of our guidance documents which we hope you find helpful. Please take time to read them.

Distance is typically 25-40 miles at a pace of 12-13mph.

 

09:00am Intermediate Group - this group is one step up from the Development Group...or are looking to progress from the Development group to a ride that is a little faster and longer.

Distance is typically 40 - 55 miles at a pace of 14-15 mph.

09:00am Middle Group - this group is one step up from the Intermediate group and aimed at riders who have a good level of base fitness, cycle regularly with experience of riding in a group that are looking to progress to longer rides over varying terrain at a higher pace.

Distance is typically 55-65 miles at a pace of 15-17 mph.

09:00am Tempo Group - as indicated by the name the pace of this group is a little faster and the routes often longer and a bit hillier. The fitness level required for this group is higher than that of the easy/intermediate or middle rides, aimed at those looking for a faster pace at middle group distance, etc. Good bike handling skills in a tight bunch are required for this group.

Distance is typically 60 - 75 miles at a pace of 17-19 mph.

09:00am Fast Group - as indicated by the name the pace of this group is a little faster and the routes often longer and a bit hillier. The fitness level required for this group is higher than that of the easy/intermediate or middle rides, aimed at those interested in racing etc. Good bike handling skills in a tight bunch are required for this group.
Distance is typically 70+ miles at a pace of 20+ mph.

Sunday Rides (Summertime rides only - from the first Sunday in April through to the end of September)

10:00am Intermediate Social Group - this group is one step up from the Development Group and takes the form of a slightly more relaxed ride compared with the Intermediate Ride on a Saturday. This group is aimed at riders who have a good base fitness and have some experience of riding in a group or are looking to progress from the Development group to a ride that is a little faster and longer but still relaxed.

Distance is typically 40-55 miles at a pace of 14-15mph.

10:00am Middle Group - this group is one step up from the Intermediate group and aimed at riders who have a good level of base fitness, cycle regularly with experience of riding in a group that are looking to progress to longer rides over varying terrain at a higher pace.

Distance is typically 45-65 miles at a pace of 15-17 mph.

Under 18?

Please read the SBC under 18 policy and advice before attending a club ride. Further information can be found in the club's Under-18 policy.

The Sunday 'Intermediate' group ride has been renamed the 'Social Intermediate' group ride. The intention is to provide a slightly more relaxed group ride at the lower end of the 14-15mph average speed with the option of a coffee shop stop half way round.
