I've heard the same Maggie motivational DDs ramblings too - funnily enuff Maggie thinks they too are fabulous.

For what it's worth I thought the conditions were 'more' harder rather than 'more' dangerous. I fully appreciate the safety balance between not riding and riding to the conditions and gaining experience from it.

For one of the 2 SBC teams the journey home was a little happier and of course a wee tad faster. ;)

Bibs - sadder and slower or happier and faster. Hopefully you'll find out within the next 24hrs :P

Despite Mark's 'motivational' ramblings about DD's fabulous, if made up, gran, Gill, Fionna & myself are heeding Graeme's advice & also withdrawing from the TTT tomorrow. A (small-ish) glass of wine is offering up a little consolation!

well, she sounds just my sort of woman!
Anyway, Norrie, GraemeN and I have 'knitting' to do so we're also withdrawing - it's just too dodgy at this early point in the season.

Some modern day riders obviously need to put down their knitting and saddle up (or is it man up lol!!). Spoked wheels are a great invention for riding in side-winds. :woohoo:
Derek Ditty’s granny rode this great race with her sisters Gert and Flossie in much worse conditions in 1937. She said it was an easy day compared to living through the blitz a couple of years later. Granny Ditty rode the 40 miles to this race wearing an alpaca jacket, woollen longs with a real chamois, leather-soled shoes with toe-clips and straps and carried a bottle of cold tea in her bottle cage. She rode to the event on 64” fixed wheel and then turned the wheel around for another size of sprocket giving her 84” to race on. She did however have a pair of fantastic bamboo-rimmed wheels (spoked) and some silk tubs that took her a year and a half to save up for. The Ditty Dynamos (as they came to be known) won the ladies prize. Granny turned her wheel again and cycled the 40 miles home and still had Grampa Ditty’s mince and tatties on the table for him coming home from racing his pigeons. :P

As you will realise, us modern riders are spoiled rotten with equipment and clothing nowadays. Racing in really bad weather is actually easier than training because you’re not out there for very long – just ask Granny Ditty ... :)

It was certainly very windy last year when I rode it with Maggie and Katie. A number of teams either didn't start or abandoned it and this included somne of the faster teams i.e. experienced riders. I introduced my very personal Newton's Third Law - For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction by having 2 portions of Veg Pakora the night before - it worked a treat. :woohoo:

I remember of few years back riding the Scottish National TTT (team of 4) when Joe Wilson rode on the front for the vast majority of it. We came 2nd ;)

So not knowing what other teams are thinking and considering team safety, one option might be nominating someone from your team to ride on the front the whole way round which would save any oning and offing.

It may come as no surprise that I'll be nominating a Nigel - Agghh but which one???

After a bit of agonising, we've decided not to start.
Weather looks very difficult - 25-30 mph SWesterly with up to 55 mph gusts.
Not great for team time trialling even without discs/ deep section wheels.
Said to Sam and Dave that I do remember well getting thrown over the road to a ditch on the right one year at the Meldons in similar conditions. Anyone lighter than my 86kg would have taken off I think! That sort of experience seems like a potential disaster with team mates around you or traffic.

If thats the case Graeme your only getting 6 mins from young Andy Brown and Lewis Mulholland from Weegie CC, told you I should have been in your team so I could get dropped on Lap 1 and then 'run interference' for the chasers :woohoo:

Might pedal over to see how you guys are doing, if the winds horrible will cut out and watch the Warriors at the Ingliston Youth Crits. There's always the Haymarket station in an emergency. :(

Sam and Graeme W. Your race licences have just arrived. I am posting them now but you may not get them by Saturday. I will email the organiser to let him know, but if you could visit your BC membership page and print off evidence of your membership, that would be a good idea!
