Dear friends,

Words can't really express it.

But, on behalf of myself and Dave's family, a massive 'thank you' for your incredible expression of appreciation for Dave's life yesterday, and for your support for me and the family. Please be assured it makes all the difference. Dave would be so humbled by your generosity towards him, and to know folks have gone to this effort in his memory. (Jim Tierney, he'd also have known he'd get it in the neck from me when we got home, if he'd made me go over the Big Braes twice in a day!! :P )

Massive respect to everyone.

Brilliant day and many thanks to Graeme, Emily and Norrie for all the organising and hard work. A brilliant turn out and definitely a record number of club jerseys, itself a tribute to all the hard work Davie and Nikki put in kitting out the club!
Routes were superb, what more can you wish than a day cŷcling in the Trossachs!
My intermediate group was superb, first time ever up braes of Greenock not once but twice as a group! Approx 45m and 1100m climbing, Davie would have loved it.
Quote of the day was from Jules :"Davie must have really liked the Big Braes this is our second time today over it!"

I've enjoyed so many amazing, epic days with the club over the last few years.
None that have made me so proud of SBC and mindful of how lucky we all are to be riding our bikes at all.
I've fond memories of riding with Dave in the group.
Have a good weekend all

Would have to reiterate what has already been said by Graeme and Norrie.

A big 'Thank You' must go to Graeme and Emily for putting this all together, Chef Norrie for some great burgers and hard work on the culinary front and to all the Ride Leaders today for taking the various groups out. When I first learned of Steven's proposals for the road routes today, had to admit to a few oaths, but Steven, the routes couldn't have been better or more apt. Challenging and good fun. Think Dave would have had a smile on his face if he had been with us today.

The Club has been trying to get a gathering like this together for a number of years now and today we succeeded in getting the main Club, together with the Warriors and the various cycling disciplines out on rides together. A very memorable day with a tremendous turn out of Club riders.

Thank you all for today!!!! :) :)

Folks, I'm absolutely blown away by the sheer number of folk that came out to support the rides today, the atmosphere was brilliant. It couldn't have happened without Emily & Norrie's hard work so many thanks to them both Thanks to the ride leaders, and thanks to you all as members.

We raised an incredible £836.16 in contributions today, thankyou all. If anyone ever questioned why you should be in a bike club surely this is an answer in itself.

I'm off out for dinner, that won't be a burger or a sausage.

Members,
A massive thanks to all who came along and made today such an outstanding success. At one point, when the smoke cleared off the BBQ for a few seconds, I was blown away by the numbers and the sea of club kit. Special thanks to Emily and Graeme for their hard work in pulling it all together. (And to the Scouts for the use of an ideal facility and awesome BBQ.)
Today was a reflection on how we all, as a club, loved Dave.
Graeme has the total consumption figures - it was huge. Craig M had the last remaining morsel - a veggie burger!
I'm looking forward to next year already.

Great call out Andrew,

A couple of last things from me before I head off to try and pack 100 + burgers, sausages and haloumi burgers into my fridge...

We'll have a number of Dave's friends and family there tomorrow as well as over 100 club members. This is an incredible turn out, and a brilliant tribute. Thank you all for making it what I'm sure will be a great day.

There is limited parking at the Scout hut, but there's plenty in Callander, as well as a couple of car parks on the small road out to the hut. Please don't park in anything that's not a proper car park.

We'll have a couple of Strathcarron Hospice collecting buckets at the BBQ, it's an opportunity for you to toss in your usual Corries money, if you want to.....

We have some Warriors coaches who will be able to lead MTB rides on Saturday however can I remind everybody of the SBC "Under 18 on all age rides policy and procedures" :-
www.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk/docs/sbc_u18_policy.doc

If you have not taken your under 18 rider out on a club ride before do please read it. Any questions please ask

I really want to flag up that if your rider is under 16 you need to ride with them or arrange a chaperone to ride with them - The chaperone must be happy to make sure your child is okay for food & drink help with mechanicals and if the child is unable to complete the ride does not abandon them but gets them back to safety. The chaperone must be somebody other than the ride leader. So its not like a Thursday night coaching session where you can arrive and leave your warrior with the coaches. The coaches/ride leaders will be leading rides but yourself or other responsible adults (who you have made arrangements with) need to be taking responsibility (chaperoning) the youngsters under 16.

There is also a very family friendly route that Eileen took our 2 children when they were very small (pre warriors) along the edge of the loch from the scout hut. Its 4 miles out and back and has lots of opportunities for throwing stones into the loch. We may or may not have a ride leader for this one but if you have small children you may want to buddy up with other families for a potter here it is

Folks, here is the suggested route for the Easy/Warriors MTB ride for Saturday

However we are still short of a suitable ride leader for this one. I can lead this one if someone can take the medium ride (experience and 1st aid cert would be ideal)

The route is a circular one of around 13km with 327m of climbing

Nothing technical (there’s a very short, granny gear / push up climb where a tree has blocked the path at the head of Loch Drunkie but that’s it). Mostly forestry tracks with a bit of single track on the descent down to Loch Venachar to re-join NCN7

There are a few attractions on the way round that are worth stopping for that I’ve noted on the directions so I reckon you could easily spend 2 hours on it taking it easy and enjoying the views, slide, musical instruments, picking blaeberries, throwing stones in the loch, etc, etc.

The pace will be relaxed with an expected start to finish time of 2-3 hours on mostly good trails, however you should come prepared for an off-road ride and bring food and a drink to keep you going for a few hours as well as your helmet (no helmet=no ride) pump, tube, tyre levers, suitable clothing for the highlands in summertime (waterproof jacket, warm clothing, etc)

The route can be viewed on Strava here

Here's a snapshot of the route

And finally directions to the Scout Hut:-
The Scout Hut is reached from Callander town centre by taking the A81 Glasgow road then, at a mini-roundabout, bearing right on a minor road signposted Invertrossachs. The road beyond the junction at Gartchonzie Bridge is a single track ‘No Through Road’, and is public as far as the estate lodge gates. Proceed along the private road carefully for approximately 2 km.

The exact location is pinpointed here on google maps. The PostCode FK17 8HG for SatNav identifies the cottages of the tiny village of Invertrossachs which is another 2km along the loch-side road.

Folks, here are the details of the Medium MTB ride for Saturday

The route is a circular one of around 22km (19km without the Glen Finglas Dam loop) with 327m of climbing tackled clockwise starting and finishing at the scout hut and taking in some really nice cycle trails and if the weather is clear some stunning views along Glen Finglas from the Dam
We can tackle the route clockwise or anticlockwise. The anticlockwise option is slightly easier because we descend the hill to the Woodland Trust's Glen Finglas car park instead of climbing up it (climb is around 8% for 1km)

We can decide the final route and direction on the day to suit the group.

The pace will be social with an expected start to finish time of 2-3 hours on mostly good trails, however you should come prepared for an off-road ride and bring food and a drink to keep you going for a few hours as well as your helmet (no helmet=no ride) pump, tube, tyre levers, suitable clothing for the highlands in summertime (waterproof jacket, warm clothing, etc)

The route can be viewed on Ride with GPS here and downloaded to your Garmin from the ridewithgps.com website

OK folks here are the three road routes for the Dave Jorgensen rides on Saturday, you'll be glad to know that whatever group you're in you have the pleasure of riding over one of Dave's favourite climbs, sometimes more than once.

We are working on offroad routes, these will be posted soon as we can.

Easy - this is 29 miles with 2032 feet of climbing but at a nice steady pace should be well within the capabilities of all development riders.

Middle - this one's 40 miles with 2862 feet of climbing, a little more strenuous than the development group, but we all know there are a few sandbaggers more than capable of stepping up to this ride!

Intermediate - the final route is 52 miles with 3704 feet of climbing, perhaps some of our Etape competitors should be leading the front of this group. That's an easy day in the saddle for them.

We have 40+ riders signed up already for this so I'm looking for ride leaders for these routes, can you let me know if you can lead a group please. We may have more than one group heading out on each route.

Weather forecast is looking OK so far, fingers crossed it turns out to be nice, it has all the makings of a great day out on the bike. Please keep on adding your names to the list, bring your friends and family. The more the merrier.

Finally, I've been in touch with Strathcarron Hospice and we'll have some collection buckets at the side of the BBQ, since SBC are picking up the costs of this, it would be nice to see folk tossing their usual Corrieries money into the charity buckets.

Folks

A quick reminder that these rides are happening a week tomorrow on 22nd August. There will be no club rides from the Peak on Sat 22nd. All rides will start and finish at the Loch Venachar Scout hut which can be found here .

The hut is reached from Callander town centre by taking the A81 Glasgow road then, at a mini-roundabout, bearing right on a minor road signposted Invertrossachs. The road beyond the junction at Gartchonzie Bridge is a single track ‘No Through Road’, and is public as far as the estate lodge gates. Proceed along the private road carefully for approximately 2 km. There is some parking at the hut, there is also parking available in Callander town centre.

We plan to have child friendly routes as well as our usual development, intermediate and faster groups.

Once you return to the scout hut we'll have burgers, sausages etc and some cold drinks (hopefully it'll be scorching hot..) Our own club Chairman is doing the cooking so it's a once in a lifetime chance to see him break sweat.

We intend to make a charitable donation to Strathcarron Hospice on the day, so as many riders out in club colours as possible would be great. We'll also have some collecting buckets that you can put your usual Corrieries money in (or more), there is no charge for the BBQ.

AlI I ask is that you let me know if you intend to come along, and if you're a vegetarian so we can make sure to have something suitable for you to eat. Please add your name to the list below.

This event isn't only for adults so I'd encourage you to bring your Warriors, partners and kids.
