Brilliant chain gang tonight, as good as any I have been in in 20yrs.
Could count the number of missed turns on one hand and all would have finished together bar for one puncture!
Nice average of 20mph for the 10 laps which is very decent on the Chartershall course.
Had wanted to do a full lap Jim, but the uploading takes ages - I'm told I'm getting fibre optic soon.......
I've managed to upload the final sprint from the same night. The speed etc. is a wee bit out of sync though.
A great turn out at CG tonight, with 2 good sized groups. We set off a bit too fast mind you, but a cracking night. Well done gang!
Remember folks, the Development Chaingang is still running each Tuesday night from 7pm. This training session is for those that want to try CG out for the first time or build up a bit of experience. It's a good, safe ride for SBC members only.
A wee video from a recent session here:
Skillwise there's nothing to worry about. The Dev chaingang was originally created as a means for riders who can't hold the pace of the Chalmerston road chaingang (which I reckon is about 2/3 to 3/4 of the club...) to learn the skills and techniques of riding a chaingang. I'll hopefully be along tonight work permitting but there will definitely be some other experienced members there who can show you how things are done. Within the first lap you'll get an idea of the way things work.
As for pace - if you coped with the intermediate run you should be able to have a good shot at this. There's a mix of abilities most weeks and the group will ride at a pace to stay together. Make sure you say sooner rather than later if the pace is too high though as it's harder to do this if you've blown up quietly at the back!
We adjust the pace depending on who turns up. The Development Chaingang is about introducing people to the art of chaingang and helping to develop skills as well as speed with "graduates" transitioning to the other chaingang as skills and speed improve.
I fancy having a crack at this! What prior level of experience / fitness is required? I currently ride with the development group on Saturdays but am probably more at the intermediate group's level. Would that be sufficient?
