Us roadies have all had a tough time over the last few months with storms rattling through the alphabet each weekend. Good news is that summer’s approaching and we’ll hopefully be able to get back out on the road again regularly.

On the club weekend rides this summer, we’re keen to encourage riders to move between groups, moving up a group when feeling strong and down when they require an easier day.

We are keen to encourage intermediate group riders to step up to middle. Middle group has usually had to split in two in past years due to high numbers but we’ll formalize it for the first Saturday in each month so that people can plan ahead and know that there will be a group that will be at a suitable level for them on that day. Starting in April when we move onto the summer timing of 9am start, we’ll ensure that on the 1st Saturday in each month the middle group will split into 2 halves and the pace of the steadier half will be 15-16mph and the faster half will be 15-17mph. The ride leader on the steadier half will ensure that the pace is not allowed to be pushed up.

Hopefully, after having been out with middle group a few times, confidence, strength and skills will grow and you may choose middle on other weekends too. On the other Saturdays the group is still likely to split so keep an eye out at the Peak, there will usually be a steady and faster half.

We’re also keen to see middle groupees stepping up to Tempo, perhaps if numbers are high enough a steadier and faster half can be achieved there too.
