Just realised my mistake. I meant to type 26th May. How the forecast changes. I will post a damp image of us all later.

Of all the sportives/away days/cycling trips I've completed, I've never had the need to adjust the travel of both brake levers midway and that is starting with new brake blocks in the morning! Probably says more about my bottle for descending hills than anything!

Image of the only moment we were dry!

Everyone home safe after a great day out(at least that is what everyone said to me)-truth at Corrieri's next Saturday no doubt.

Special thanks to Mr Lindsay for the warning about the climb and descent at Otter Ferry down to Ormidale. It became apparent early on that I had forgotten more about the route than I remembered! That said we took it easy all the way round managing to keep the group together on more climbs than the average Saturday ride would particularly the last two. Despite the damp conditions the last 10 miles or so back into Dunoon was glorious. There was fantastic discipline with shouts for hazards-best group ride for that in years. Well done guys-take it back to the Saturday group rides.

For future visits I would consider reversing the first loop to avoid the hair pins with adverse camber on the descent to Ardintinny. The climb above Otter Ferry is the big climb of the day. It is a tight right turn with adverse camber (ask Andy who left something behind there). Take the turn easy watching the camber and for loose surface. Descend in ones and twos. Gravel and grass in centre of roads in places and there is one notable hairpin with adverse camber. Oh and make it clear the ferry goes from McIroy's point Gourock.
I would say that most road surfaces good to excellent but like most places there are bad spot where the quality is not what we would want.
Books of 10 tickets can be bought for £23.10 from the coop on the left on main road through Gourock.
Lunch was at susie's tea room tighnabruaich.
Hotel stopped serving food by the time we got there.

We had 2 mechanicals on the Ferry yes you read it correctly-loose cleats.

3 punctures on the route. All handled by the group. My chain kept skipping on the cassette in cogs 2-4 when on the 34T front sprocket which added to the challenge of the climbs. Defo do some decent climbs to test a new chain was the lesson I learned as it had ridden fine during the week-hold on even the Wallace Monument climb. I am confused!

Thank you all fior the company. Look forward to seeing you on the next away day. Keep your eyes on the forum.

Stuart.
PS I learned how you get to Gordon's age in such good shape-by doing the sensible thing! In this case head home rather than continue in rather miserable conditions especially when the route loops back past the start after 20miles or so. I will work on my sun summoning skills for the next ride Gordon. It was great having you along and even better that you did a decent spell before leaving.

Just a quick nudge folks, to get this up the feed. Was it Chi's table or the indecisive forecast? I am still up for going as driver or passenger. Latest weather looks cool and possibly a bit damp but nothing too awful.

I'm still game. And still willing to drive to free up space in the cars of folks with bike racks. Looks like a departure time of
8ish so contact me directly if you'd like to leave from anywhere in Stirling around that time.

I'm investigating the possibility of getting a rack myself but there are complications due to my car being weird so if you're
riding with me it would probably be a case of taking the wheels off and stuffing the bikes in the back. Should be plenty of room for
me and one other though.

Here are my contact details: gist.github.com/cddr/ea4d37d184a9c2eaccc9a4503dc2150c

Weather is looking Ok for Saturday. I am happy to drive down or have a lift as previously posted. I have room for 2 passengers and 3 bikes (2 on roof rack and one in car). I am in Denny and I think maybe would aim to leave at 8.00. I think there are a few folk in Denny coming along by looks of list? Maybe we could group together to head down rather than go up to Stirling? Any thoughts post up or contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. Would add, I have never driven down to the terminal so if anyone knows the parking location would be good.

Ok weekend approaching. Fingers crossed for the weather.

Now is the time to sort out transport- we are 10 or 11

Who wants a lift? - A couple of car shares listed. I am leaving from centre of Stirling so could round around locally (within reason).
Kieran Kennelly send me a PM to arrange suitable meeting point/time

I am showing around 1hour 15 travel time- So say leave Stirling circa 8:00am. Arrive 9:15, 15-20mins of faffing about gives around 15mins to pootle along to terminal.
You are unlikely to park at the terminal and there are no toilets there either.
See Directions Link . Check the parking restrictions I think it is ok.

I've injured my back , missing the Lew Weaver and I'm not sure if I'll be fit for next weekend. Therefore I've put a question mark on my participation for now.

Away day on Cowal Peninsula. 80 or so miles.

Details below- way down the post. with link including a route in Garim and soon to be Strava - scroll down. Better still copy the post and reply adding your name to the bottom of the list.

Nobody abandoned start and finish as a group. I averaged a solo 15mph so not exactly pushing it.

I have a car and am happy to drive but I don't own a bike rack so if anyone could lend me one for the day, I might be able to help one or two folks out with a ride if required.

Now in answer to David Lindsay's comment regarding theroute- there are some hills. Some quite steep. The one in question out of Otter Ferry I did not think too bad perhaps because I did not go down into Otter Ferry to start the climb and perhaps I fortified myself with fruit scone and tea at the Hotel just before the turn. The descent off the top is steep and narrow and will be subject of a safety moment- one of many on the day as I want us all to get round safely. The road surfaces last July we pretty good but again we should not count on that as there are a lot of timber movements in that part of the world and a year is a long time for a road to deteriorate.

Just had a quick look at the route - is anyone who's going on the ride familiar with the road from Otter Ferry to Clachan of Glendaruel? Only asking as I rode it a couple of years ago as part of a "six ferries" (Otter Ferry being the 6th B) ) route. The climb out of Otter Ferry is "stiff", to put it diplomatically, and the descent down the other side was insanely steep - like coming down Logie Kirk - on a fairly narrow and rough road.

If you could add my name to the list. Never been down to that part of the world. Happy to drive if needs be and have space for 2 bikes in the car (and / or 2 on roof rack), though if there is a space I am equally happy to be a passenger.
Cheers,

Away day on Cowal Peninsula. 80 or so miles.

Details below.
I can transport 2-3 other riders.
Cowal Peninsula

Course Link In Garmin

Park on A770 junction with Ashburn Gate as there are toilets on the front. See Directions Link . Check the parking restrictions I think it is ok.

Meet at McInroys Point Ferry Terminal around 5mins cycle from parking. (The terminal has no facilities and very limited parking)
Timetable
Catching 09:50am Ferry. Ferries are every 20mins. Will go earlier if others up for it. I have bought 10 tickets(yes I am an optimist) which workout at £4.62 return or you can buy on ferry for £9.30. Fare Info

Lunch in one of the eaterys or the shop in Tighnabruaich roughly halfway. Public Toilets here too. In fact very civilised part of the world on the public convenience front.
It is a day in the saddle. Two bottles which will need refilling, snacks, usual riding in Scotland paraphernalia(waterproof), couple of tubes.
Please inspect and change break blocks in advance if they look to be near the end of their life. Make sure your tyres are in good nick as we are quite remote.
Road surfaces were (2018) generally very good with lots on new tar. Some of the decents are technical and I will be urging caution. I hit 41mph somewhere on the route (not sure where as I think my eyes were closed at the time).

Nobody abandoned start and finish as a group. I averaged a solo 15mph so not exactly pushing it.
Today Lorenzo asked about the pace of the ride I think it was tongue in cheek but let me re-iterate after todays performance (er lack off) it will defo not be "TEMPO" more "Lentando"-in fact this could be the name of a new group in the club:) . Away day is more of a social and all I have been on have been that way.

Nice route. I grew up there, in fact half way up the 1:5 hill at Loch Striven....It’s a pretty unexplored area, but the view of the Kyles of Bute on the way to Tighnabruaich is stunning. Enjoy!

So stop just looking!
