Andrew I'd really like an easier ride but at 2 degrees (feels like -2 with the easterly wind) I fear both ice on our route and getting cold riding; so regretfully I'm passing. Be safe if you go out.
Is anyone wishing to go for a ride tonight? I would politely request that the ride is as described in the subject i.e. Inter/easy middle pace. If you want to go faster, that's fine, I just won't be doing that, we could even split into 2 groups if people want to do different speeds.
Definitely looks like it will be wet tonight and since no-one else has posted to say they'll be there and I don't fancy cycling in the dark and wet on my own, I'll join the Strava group ride at 6.45pm tonight instead.
Hi Alan, Steve and I'll be there at 7.00pm too. Anyone else? Normal 20 mile route to Thornhill, Flanders Moss and Coldoch Road via Chalmerston Rd, at 15-17 mph, good lights, tools, spares and mudguards please. Helmet mandatory. Meet in or by bus shelter opposite the entrance to Dobbies. Over 16's only and 16-18's need to carry emergency contact details, please.
No-one interested, due to monsoon, so rollers it was for me, and strength & conditioning for Steve. Anyone free for 7.00pm next Thursday 15 Nov? I'm keen, even if wet, as I have a weekend of travel and partying ahead.
I'll come for a gentle spin. Got cabin fever and need some air. See you at the bus shelter at 7.00pm. If I'm late, which is often, please progress along Chalmerston Rd and I'll be heading along it in the opposite direction!
I cant do Thursday nights which is a shame but I plan to continue the Monday summer runs we did now at night say meet at seven 19.00 chalmerston road near the old bridge where it is safe to congregate. Exact same route as the summer run. Bring good lights and warm bright gear. I should make it most Mondays and anybody up for it please join me?
Thanks Jim R
Thursday night gentle road rides

Personally not so keen on the idea. I would not want to wait by myself in the dark in a quiet lane. I'm much happier out on the main road where seen by all and it was chosen for this reason in the winter, with the added protection of the bus shelter if required. The bus stop gives us an area to move out into the moving traffic.
Can I recommend that you do not meet at the bus stop but at the start of Chalmerston Road instead. (That location caused confusion during the Monday night summer rides as it is!)
That bus stop is on a busy trunk road opposite a busy shopping facility that will commence late night opening towards Christmas. Meeting on bicycles at that location in summer daylight isn’t ideal. Meeting there on winter nights isn’t a good decision guys. Go round the corner where it is safe, quiet and on the proposed route.
Yup - same for me - I plan to make it along most weeks when I can.
Like Allan P - I really enjoyed these rides last year and would encourage anyone who’s not been but is thinking of doing it to come along. Just invest in decent lights and some reflective clothing. It’s a great chance to get out for some miles through the winter and it’s a really sociable bunch!!
