Nigel

A few of us are heading out about 4pm on Friday afternoon for a burl round the island with a refreshment stop for a couple of libations before dinner at the Kingartth. If you fancy it and you’re over by then if you’re at the Glenburn for 4pm we’ll catch up with you then.

Due to a family engagement, I now cant make the Bute trip.

I had booked a double room at Glenburn for the Friday and Saturday nights
and paid a deposit.

As I will lose the deposit anyway, if anyone going wants the room, you can have it for the remaining balance to be paid at the hotel £87. Let me know and I will inform the hotel.

Gutted to be missing this...

Folks,
Please see attached flyer from Murray Doyle, the event organiser for the Rothesay Weekend.
For those of you still looking to book, please see the full thread below for an excellent deal at The Glenburn, where most of us have stayed for the last 4 or 5 years.
For anyone on the fence about coming along to this weekend, it is an excellent, fun and social series of events with a very friendly atmosphere on the Island. A fantastic introduction to racing that nobody takes too seriously.
SBC have historically always had a great turn out and I'm sure this year will be no different!

That's me booked into b&b hopefully on the right island and entries in for hill climb, 10. TT, Apr ( I might regret that)

If anyone is unsure the hill climb is a breeze (well going down hill afterwards is) and the novice race great fun just don't go on the front before the last 100 feet

Give the hill climb a go, Graeme - it's absolutely iconic!

And it's definitely not as steep as the Wallace Monument road.

Thanks Beth but I've done the Wallace hill climb twice now and I vowed I would never do a short hill climb ever again! I'll be much happier cheering you guys on.

Graham,
How about the Hill Climb at 11.00am on the Saturday. I've entered it for the first time this year! Just a wee warm up :-)

I was thinking of doing the 2up TT but I see that race starts at 13.30 and the CX Vet 50 race starts at 15.30!! Timing is tight and no time to recover. I'm now thinking of the 10 mile TT (even though I hate them!) or the Novice Road Race. Is there anywhere we can see an overview of the race schedule for the weekend?

Hi Alan happy to partner you for the 2 up (don't think entries open yet but I find the TLI site bit ploddy)

Is it me or is it only the novice race for which entries are open?

Whoops. Only just spied this! Booked St Ebba B&B, close by, back in early July. Just entered the CX race at 3.30pm Saturday. Greatly looking forward to it. For those new to travelling to Rothesay, Bute, it's not possible to book a ferry from Wemyss Bay; you just turn up and book a ticket at the port. Car and 2 passengers is £35.20 return. Some years, with a dry forecast, lots of club members just go over without their bikes at £6.30 return per person, with bike being free ( limit to 6 bikes per crossing if they decide to enforce the rule)
Hope this helps some newcomers decide to come along and enjoy the fun

Booked in for the Friday & Saturday nights.
First time at the Bute festival for me.
I’m thinking CX, TT and maybe Novice road race.
Anybody fancy partnering me for the 2up TT?

Folks,
The Bute cycling festival is the weekend of 15th and 16th September this year.
Over the last number of years the club has had an excellent attendance at this great fun weekend. The weekend is a perfect introduction to racing. It’s very laid back and everyone is very welcoming. Some would even say the racing is secondary to the socialising.
There will be a CX race, Serpentine Hill Climb, 2-Up TT, 10 mile TT, APR and Novice RR.
The vast majority of us stay each year at the Glenburn Hotel. We usually book via Bay Hotels but this year I have contacted the hotel directly and they have offered the club a deal. It’s £207 per twin or double room for 3 nights DB&B or £174 for 2 nights DB&B. Exceptional prices with a saving of £43 on the cheapest 3 nights at Bay Hotels website.
It would be wrong of me not to mention the entertainment at the hotel over the weekend too - it takes many forms!
Let’s make this years end of season away weekend a big one! Please give the hotel a call and ask for Karen or Melissa on 01700 502500 to book.
